Nothing Is Wrong With Your Ice Cream (So Why Do You Feel Guilty Eating It?)
I was at a party last weekend and numerous people said it: ‘I’ve been so bad…, I had an ice cream.’
The food was fine. It’s the conversation around it that’s exhausting.
Why Shouldn’t You Eat Ice Cream?
It’s summer. You’re at a party. That’s exactly what ice cream is for.
Really, what is wrong with ice cream? Genuinely. Someone tell me. Because I’ve never once heard a good answer to that question.
‘It’s Not Healthy’
Neither is the mental energy you’ve burned worrying about it. And that one doesn’t even come in a cone.
‘It’s Calorific’
Spending every sunny afternoon in your head doing a calorie audit is a waste of time and takes away all enjoyment of the ice cream. At least the ice cream tastes good.
‘It’s Fattening’
One ice cream has never, in the history of human beings, been the problem. The guilt spiral that follows it? That’s worth looking at.
‘It’ll Lead To More Bad Foods’
Only if you decide it means you’ve ruined everything and you may as well eat the entire kitchen. Which isn’t about the ice cream. That’s the bit we need to talk about.
The Real Problem Was Never The Ice Cream
It’s not what you’re eating. It’s why you can’t stop thinking about it.
So enjoy your ice cream – because the problem has never, not once, been the ice cream.
